While the liberals and the leftists glorified religious fanatic like Tippu and Aurangzeb many real hero’s bravery and sacrifice slowly were wiped off from the pages of Indian history. I have always opposed the kind of history that is projected and told to the younger generation . Today’s Indian history is written by a bunch of stooges who wanted to please their masters for their personal and political gains. However, with the growing influence of social media here is an opportunity for writers like me to unearth the real history and unmask the true heroes from Indian history.
Saraswathy Rajamani is one such beautiful chapter from the Indian freedom struggle, the history textbooks, the government and the Indian administration didn’t bother glorifying her because she didn’t choose the path of Gandhi nor was she a part of any dynasty politics. Rajamani belonged to a very wealthy family but, decided to dedicate her life to following Subhas Chandra Bose. She was just 16 years old when she joined the INA and donated all her jewelry to raise funds for Indian freedom struggle. She and five other girls then dressed up as boys and snooped on the British. They would then relay the information back to INA headquarters. She was a part of the undercover operation for about 2 years. They usually worked as house helps in the camps occupied by the British military and tacked all the activities of these officers to only pass information to INA.
They were given explicit instructions that if they were caught they should shoot themselves immediately. One girl was caught alive before she could shoot herself. Rajamani decided to rescue her. She disguised herself and infiltrated the camp and drugged the British officers before they could do anything.
Then she fled with the other rescued girl. A British officer shot her in the leg(3 times)while she was running away, but she still escaped.
Her family owned gold mines and gave everything away for the freedom struggle. Till about a decade ago Ms Rajamani lived a life of loneliness and independent, in a small apartment in Chennai. She lived a life of poverty and isolation. In the year 2005 CM of Tamil Nadu Ms Jayalalithaa offered her cheque for ₹5 lakh and ordered allotment of a housing board flat to for the veteran. Having served with INA for years and risking her life to pass on vital information which is said to have saved life of thousands of soldiers Saraswathy Rajamani will be remembered as one of the greatest and the most courageous Spy India has ever seen. Her contribution to this nation should be told to every Indian. A women who could have spent a lavish life donated her everything to save mother India from the clutches of British raj. May she inspire millions of other Indians to love and care for Mother India.
