There are certain facts one should know pertaining to how state government of Karnataka messed up the Cauvery issue for the state of Karnataka. I write this article to put forward certain facts and explain why PM Modi has no business to intervene in the Cauvery water dispute. After a massive protest in Karnataka pertaining to Cauvery verdict CM Siddramaiah writes to prime minister Modi asking his intervention to the matter, here the CM cleverly has tried to pass the buck and blame the PM. Many Kannadigas including myself was furious at PM Modi for not making any effort to resolve the issue. However, I managed to unearth certain facts which explained why central government should not be blamed for all the mess created by some power hungry politicians of the state. The congress government in the state has played a clever game by blaming Central government for not taking a stand on Cauvery issue however one must understand that central government had made all possible efforts to resolve the issue but the ego of certain politicians in the state stopped them from meeting Modi to resolve the issue
Modi had invited CMs of Maharashtra, Goa & Karnataka to discuss and find a solution for the Mahadayi water dispute however Karnataka CM choose not to attend the meet for some reason. Now the case is fought in the court of Law and Karnataka, unfortunately, seems to be losing hopes of winning the case.
PM Modi had also offered CM Siddharamaiah to lead the swatch Barath campaign however Siddramaiah declined it, had Siddramaiah agreed to lead the campaign he could have managed to get various waste management projects to Karnataka their by cleaning up river Cauvery and implementing systematic waste management system would have been a reality
The drastic reduction in Rainfall in Kodagu has resulted in less inflow of water to KRS which has lead to such uncomfortable scenario in the state. Every year state of Karnataka releases enough water to Tamilnadu, one must understand more than 5 lakh trees were cut to lay electrical hi tension cables to Kerala via Karnataka and the project was approved by then UPA government. This destruction of forest to light up Kerala has to lead to massive reduction in rainfall at Kodagu and in turn no inflow to KRS
When lakhs of trees were destroyed in Kodagu to light up Kerala why didn’t CM of Karnataka or any Kannada organisations raise their concerns, how could you generate water in KRS when Kodagu (source of water at KRS) is destroyed by timber mafia which is rampant in the district. These Mafia at Kodagu make crores of money looting timbers and they are not stopped
While CM Siddramaiah was the opposition leader he blamed than state government for not changing the lawyer Fali Sam Nariman after repeatedly losing the case on Cauvery dispute the same Fali Sam Nariman continues to fight the case under CM Siddramaiahs government now.
How could you blame the central government when government of Karnataka filed an affidavit and eventually agreed to release 10,000 cusecs of water for the said period
All judgement provided by the honourable Supreme Court was based on the affidavit filed by the state government of Karnataka and it’s legal team. How could one expect PM to intervene to bypass the court, PM is no way above the law. It was the sheer failure of Karnataka government for not being able to convince the court about the reality.
During mid-2015 PM Modi had requested CM of Karnataka to accompany the PM for China visit to improve bilateral ties and get more investments for the state however CM of Karnataka denied to go with PM for some reason, these facts are documented.
Not being able to change the lawyers even after repeated failure, failing to represent facts, figures and ground reality of Karnataka and its dependence on river Cauvery, using Cauvery issue politically to blame each other only shows how rich and power hungry politicians have been fooling Kannadigas from decades now.
When states like Goa and Tamilnadu can win water dispute cases against Karnataka every time does it not clearly indicate that the legal team heading the dispute for Karnataka is not doing enough. How would PM Modi be responsible for what facts Fali Sam Nariman presents before the court
PM Modi or Central government has absolute no rights to intervene or make a statement on the Cauvery water dispute since the case is handled by the Supreme Court and any statement made by PM would be considered as disrespect to the honourable court and the justice of the nation.
Having put few facts into place let’s wake up to understand how state political leaders have been fooling us for years and work on how to get justice for farmers of Karnataka. The legal team should be changed. Getting a lawyer who understands the ground reality to argue the case is the need of the hour. It’s easy to pass the buck and blame each other for the issue but now It becomes the responsibility of every Kannadiga to look at the issue at the micro level to understand where the problem lies. If deforestation in Kodagu continues at
The present rate river Cauvery will only be a golden chapter in the state of Karnataka. I hope the Government of Karnataka will put a little effort to stop the deforestation at Kodagu and thereby save river Cauvery.
