Prime Minister Narendra Modi Broke his silence on the Uri attacks for the first time today. In his first public address after the fateful incident, he strongly condemned the act of cross-border terrorism resorted by Pakistan. He stated that the Killing of 18 Soldiers will not be forgotten, and their deaths will be avenged. He was addressing the nation at the backdrop of a three-day BJP conclave which is ongoing in Kozhikode. 18 Jawans were killed in a terrorist attack in Uri in Baramulla district of Jammu and Kashmir¬¬ on 18th September.
He took this stage to send a strong message to Pakistan and also to make the stand of India clear saying that, The Republic would not support any acts of terror or any country supporting it. He also asserted that India has been successful in isolating Pakistan in a Global platform, and would continue its efforts in doing so more intensely. He didn’t miss a chance to take a jibe on Pakistan in his address where he stated, “ India exports Software all over the world, and Pakistan exports Terrorism. The stand of the Prime minister and his address is a strong message to Pakistan making it clear that India won’t go soft on the State sponsored cross-Border terrorism. He said the Pakistani leaders are misleading the citizens of the country by talking about Kashmir but are not able to handle the tensions in PoK, Balochistan, Gilgit and Pakhtunistan. Instead of fighting against each other he urged Pakistan to fight with India in the eradication of Unemployment, Poverty, and illiteracy.
He also lauded the Indian army for thwarting as many as 17 infiltration attempts across the border in the recent months, killing more than 110 terrorists. He also made the stand of India against terrorism clear by mentioning that India would never bow down to terrorism and will strive to defeat it.
Ever since the attack on Uri, the relationship between the two nations have become sourer and a kind of hostile tension prevails across the Border. The news of the cancellation of leaves of Pakistan Rangers and increased deployment of armed forces on both sides of the Border have given more serious indications about the situation. All peace talks have taken a halt after this attack, and Pakistan’s allegation of India being responsible for the unrest in Pakistan occupied Kashmir has only added fuel to the already existing tension between the states. India’s claims have received support from the international community, the USA is bent to pass a law on declaring Pakistan as a terrorist nation. However, Pakistan decided the give a cold shoulder to the Uri attack, with Prime minister Nawaz Sharif stating Uri was a reaction to the atrocities in Kashmir, as the close relatives and near and dear ones of those killed and blinded over the last two months were hurt and outraged. He was addressing reporters on Friday in London where he had stopped on his way back from New York after attending the UN General Assembly session. Sharif said that India hastily blamed Pakistan without any investigation. He said India behaved in an “irresponsible way” when it blamed Pakistan “without any evidence”.
Regardless of the stand of the two countries, it is very much evident and clear that the diplomatic relationships between the two nations have gone sour and the tension seems to continue across the border.
