The discussions continued between Shiva and Parvati. Mahadeva narrated to Devi an important conversation that took place between Rama, Sita and Hanuman. It contained one of the most esoteric, closely guarded and inaccessible secret; which is concerned with the means to attain Moksha, Nirvana or liberation.
Shiva elaborates; this happened after Rama had proved to be the invincible warrior that he was, by destroying the evil Ravana. Rama had obliterated Ravana’s entire army, killed his sons and wiped out all the communications. Rama had a military success ratio of infinity; because the enemy kill was one hundred percent and his losses was zero percent. He had revived all the dead monkeys by the use of Sanjeevani herb and brought them home alive. Rama had installed Vibhishana as the King of Lanka and advised him to replace the system of governance with a Dharmic one.
Rama and Sita were coronated as Emperor and Empress of Kosala after the war. The monkey King Sugreeva and Commander Hanuman attended this happy anointment at Ayodhya. Now that the crisis of war was over and everyone was relaxed and calm. Rama noticed that in all of the august assemblies, which hosted the greatest men alive at that time; Hanuman was the most contented and desire-less.
Hanuman had fulfilled all that was asked by Rama, Sita and Lakshmana, sometimes even before Rama could say it aloud, as if Hanuman had understood the command of his lord through telepathy. Rama knew that Hanuman would never ask anything in return; He had done his duty as a Dasa (Servant) of Rama without any expectation. The happiness of doing something for the lord was a reward in itself. However, Rama knew that Hanuman was a strong aspirant of knowledge (Jignyasu) and wished to learn the ultimate truth. There he was with folded hands, bent head, just waiting for the next order from Rama.
Rama knew that Hanuman had to be given the greatest gift of all, the gift of knowledge about the absolute, timeless, ultimate truth that every soul strives to achieve. That every living creature hungers for; the concupiscence of rebirth after rebirth leading to the ability of grasping and understanding “life, liberation & lord” was embodied by every breath that the great General Hanuman was taking.
Rama turned to Sita and appealed, “My beloved Sita, you must impart to Hanuman the knowledge of the supreme truth. He is without any impurities, he is ever devoted to us and he is, by all means, the most competent person to receive spiritual illumination.”
Sita is basically the Maha-Maya-Shakti of the lord. The infatuating power that veils the entire world with illusion. Sita as Maya does two things, she blinds the Spiritual-seer from seeing the truth about the self and creates confusion through the universal consciousness. Presently, she saw in Hanuman, who was seated at the feet of Rama a spiritual refugee. He was sitting patiently, waiting for the reward from the lord. He had put himself out there with all humility, but he knew it was coming. He knew the benevolence of Rama, he knew that the truth shall be revealed. He also knew that this could not be as a “result” of any action or deed; he knew that the truth would come as a by-product of his devotion, his surrender to the lord.
Sita’s heart was overwhelmed by the complete acquiescence of Hanuman towards Rama. She was glad that the lord had chosen her to bestow the supreme truth, which we shall in further chapters is no different from Lord Rama himself.
