What is it? Digital India, a 1.13 lakh-crore project, initiated by our Prime Minister Shri. Narendra Modi on 1st July 2015 is a welcome initiative by the PM after Clean India and Make in India initiatives.
Why is it? From the words of Mr. PM himself, “I dream of a digital India where high-speed digital highways unite the nation; 1.2 billion connected Indians drive innovation; technology ensures the citizen-government interface is incorruptible,” and to fulfill his many other dreams for making India a digitally better place.
Digital India – is a huge step forward, with 1.13 crore investment. But ultimately, all we need to know is, what we get as an Indian citizen? or simply put, what’s in it for me?
Many new projects have been introduced as a part of Digital India Programme. Each project has been crafted to improve different aspects of our country’s processes. From Agriculture to Internet of Things, everything plays a crucial role in our day-to-day lives, directly or indirectly.
The Projects: Below is a collection of all important project initiatives as mentioned by the PM.
The Investors:
The Government of India is investing 1.13 lakh-crore in this project. The big billionaires of India have promised of investing 4.5 lakh-crore in the Digital India project.
Chairman of Relaince Industries, Mukesh Ambani said that his company will invest 2.5 lakh-crore across different projects of Digital India Programme. He has also announced of ‘Jio Digital India Start Up Fund’ to support young entrepreneurs who are commencing up enterprises focused around the Digital India programme.
Kumar Mangalam Birla, the Chairman of Aditya Birla Group and owner of Idea Cellular Ltd. said, his company will launch a mobile wallet and payment bank as well as invest over $2 billion in the next five years in areas such as electronic manufacturing, energy storage, Internet of Things and development of smart cities, a report by Economic Times said.
