Nextbit Robin – The Smarter Smartphone

“Not Enough Storage”, Have you ever felt so frustrated with this warning message on your smartphone? Well, you are not alone, we all have. Finally someone has a solution for that. Yes, Nextbit, a company founded by the Ex. employees of Google, Apple and HTC released their first smartphone on Kickstarter. The phone comes with 100 GB of free cloud storage, and it will automatically backup all your files.

The phone looks quite different from usual. It’s completely rectangle like the Sony Xperia phones, but with some major design changes on front and rear. The former HTC design head, Scott Croyle, who crafted some of the best devices for HTC like One M7 and M8 has designed the phone.

Nextbit Robin Specs:

The device is solid on specs. It packs Snapdragon 808 processor, USB Type C and a 13 MP rear camera.

A 2680 mAh battery, which the company says, has been optimized to give the best battery life.

The Fingerprint sensor is placed on the side of the phone.

It also comes with zero bloatware. You only will have the apps which are necessary.

What’s different? The phone looks like any other smartphone on the market and the claims are also similar. But, inside, it has got some smart stuff. For example, if you run out of space in your device, it will automatically uninstall the apps from your phone, which you haven’t been using for a while. The Apps, though, will still be available on your cloud account. And you can reinstall it with a single tap on it, and voila, you’re back to the same state as before.

The phone will backup your data only when you’re connected to WiFi and plugged into the charger. So, you don’t have to worry about battery or your data plan for that matter.

Thoughts: Nextbit believes now is the time for cloud and they revealed Robin with the same motto behind. The phone has sound specs and looks really cool and does smart stuff. However, we will have to wait and see how the device performs in real life.

Talking about performance, the Nextbit Robin is on the Kickstarter campaign with a pledge for $5,00,000 and within 12 hours, the phone has surpassed the target!

Release date and price in India: The phone will be shipped to the preordered customers by October for a special price on Kickstarter. The first 1000 backers will get the phone for $299. After that the price will be $349 on Kickstarter. For others, it’s $399. So, we are not sure if the phone will be released in India. It may release in couple of months. And if it’s released, we expect the price to be Rs. 27,000 to 30,000.
