Techies and IT professionals, who are working for various Indian and MNC tech firms, today launched #SaveWhitefield campaign, aimed at drawing the attention of the Congress government in Karnataka towards the plight of the IT hub Whitefield in Bengaluru.
Home to the highest concentration of tech firms and employees in Bengaluru, the infrastructure in Whitefield has completely collapsed due to lack of maintenance by the Bruhat Bengaluru Mahanagara Palike (BBMP). Pot-holed roads, flooded roads and overflowing drains contribute on a daily basis to the traffic-jam hit locality where peak hour speed is not more than 3 kms/hour.
On Monday morning, more than 5,000 techies from various firms turned up at important junctions in Marathahalli, Kundalahalli gate, Graphite India junction and EPIC zone to register their protest by holding placards. They also formed human chains. Senior representatives of the government are expected to meet them later in the day.
