Jhanvi Behal cyber-bullying: Hypocrisy of self declared “Liberals” exposed!

International women’s day aims in making the women’s voices heard and in advocating equal rights for men and women. In the global trend of advancements and revolutions India has also strongly advocated the issue by raising voice when it comes to women empowerment. The LIBERALS have made it clear that their aim is to end the hypocrisy of the male dominant society by revolting and protesting against the ill practices that prey on women. The “#Happytobleed”, “#ShaniShingnapur” hashtags have made some real noise in the recent past. If women empowerment is about providing this, it is a welcome move. We should strongly advocate and support these acts of liberation of women of the confinements set by the society. But the same people who raised voices about women empowerment are divided amongst themselves when it comes to a 15 year old voicing her opinion.

The Liberal Outfit is split when it comes to supporting a 15 year old Jhanvi Behal who challenged the JNUSU president Kanhaiya Kumar to an open debate on his speech in which he condemned the “Modi government”. She is being mocked, bullied and made fun of, by the twitterati which strongly propagates the need for women empowerment. The reason that they are giving is quite irrational. They speak of her being too young to make a statement, immature to take a stand, and also quoting that her stand would affect her career and life in the long run. The irony though here is that, the same set of people had supported Malala Yusufazai in her “game changing” fight against the Taliban and their oppressive rules. But they are trying to silence  Jhanvi’s voices.

Here are some of the Tweet screenshots from our so called “liberals” including Indian Twitter political head Raheel Khurshid. See, how the tone changes from “Malala” to “Jhanvi”, just because she does not buy their political views. This is cyberbullying of a 15 year old girl, who has made her name as an activist even before this issue occured.

This nation has to travel a long way in bringing about a change in this idea because, we treat a 15 year old woman as a “kid” and a 39 year old woman as an “aunty”. But the bottom line stands strong and simple,  the last time when the voice of a 15 year old girl was silenced, she won Nobel. Those attacking her were called Extremists, In India they are called Liberals. Long live india. Anyways Happy International Women’s day
