Sorry state: D K Ravi’s mom pledges ornaments to meet the expenses of his death rituals

“Everyone has a price, the important thing is to find out what it is.” These were the statements of the Columbian drug Lord Pablo Escobar. These words from the most celebrated criminals of all time sounds so true after an year of the death of IAS officer DK Ravi. A brave and honest officer had to give up his life in an unnatural death on march 16th 2015. The exuberant officer was known for his able and efficient administrative nature. But the price that he had to pay for being uncompromising was his life. His death and the aftermath of it stands in as a live example of the price that you have to pay for being strict and stern, and for not yielding to political muscle power. After an year of his death, his mother had to mortgage her golden chain in order to carry out his death anniversary rituals.

The government had promised compensations. People had gathered for support. Media houses had promised of staying with the family as a strong support, social organizations had vowed of providing justice to the family. But after an year, the family is left alone. The compensation that was promised had just stayed in words and government records. The family hasn’t got a penny of it. This act of carelessness and insensitivity towards the family of the diseased stands as a live example of the government’s ruthlessness. It also is an act that pushes any individual who tries to fend off corruption and tries to fight and cleanse the corrupt system. People and the society often condemns and criticizes the government officials for their corruption and irregularities. But when it comes to supporting an individual who lived and died for justice we go mum and stand in as silent spectators witnessing the atrocities. At least now we should vow to change this and make a difference in this society. And with a painful and sad heart we salute with all gratitude and respect to the noble soul of Sri DK Ravi. Rest in peace sir. We will carry forward the fire and the fight that you ignited in our souls and lives.
