Limelight and popularity are two things in this media driven world that can keep you in socially alive and active. And people try different things and indulge in different deeds to stay in the limelight. This description fits exactly to the act of Kanhaiya Kumar “Being strangulated by a strong BJP supporter”. This incident was alleged to have happened in the Kolkata-Mumbai-Pune flight. The issue made headlines and got Kanhaiya the publicity he wanted.
But the official statement from the Jet airways doesn’t mention about any tiff in between the passengers but instead reports that a few passengers were deplaned. The police officials also mentioned that Kanhaiya was requested to undergo a medical examination, but he refused to do so.
The guy accused to have strangulated Kanhaiya, a Manas Deka strongly denied the accusations on him and said it was a publicity stunt by the former. Deka had boarded the flight in Kolkata, and he had the window seat while Kumar who boarded the plane in Mumbai had been allotted the aisle seat. Deka is said to have gotten up to stretch his legs after the flight from Kolkata and lost balance and touched Kanhaiya. “There was little space to walk across Kumar and I accidentally tripped. There was no intention to hurt, I immediately apologized. There were about 3-4 other passengers who I believe were Kumar’s associates who started alleging that I pressed his throat, and after that even Kumar joined the outcry. I was trying to balance myself on an aching leg. I do not know him personally, even though I have seen his pictures. This is being done for cheap publicity” he said.
The deplaning of both the passengers falls under The sabotage Convention or the Montreal Convention. This is a multi-lateral agreement calling for severe action against those who disturb flight. Clause one states: Committing an act of violence against a person on board an aircraft in flight if it is likely to endanger the safety of the aircraft. This is a criminal offense.
This act of Kanhaiya is a clear indication of his wantonness to get back the lost popularity and the public visibility.
