Android is now a widely dominated operating system on Electronic devices. Our mobile phone, Televisions, PDA’s have been already androdified. Android stands so strong, competitive and popular because of its features and recent version updates. Android team always keep themselves in trend by christening new names which are usually desserts for new versions.
Naming Android version has started with version 1.5 with sweet name “Cup cake” in April 2009 for the first time. There after we had Donut(1.6), Eclair(2.0,2.1), Froyo(2.2,2.2.3), Gingerbread(2.3,2.3.7), Honeycomb(3.0), Icecreamsandwich(4.0,4.3.1), Kitkat(4.4,4.4.4), Lollipop(5.0), Marshmallow(6.0).
The next alphabet was N and version was Android 7.0 then there was request for name suggestion from android. It was really nice suggesting a version name which must be a sweet name and must start with letter “N” and off course a large community suggested different names. You can see many of them are listed in the below video.
Finally throwing back Nerds, Nutella, Necco, Nectarine and neapolitan ice cream one name come up with Android 7.0 and that is #AndroidNougat.
Nougat is a hard chewy white or pink sweet food, usually containing nuts. Nougat is a crunchy mix of eggs, honey, sugar and dry fruits mainly nuts. We Indians have our own Nougat, It is my personal opinion that it looks similar to “Chikki” which is a kind of sweet most popular at Lunavala (Puna). Exception is we won’t use Eggs.

There are mixed reactions on social media as few wanted to name it as “Nutella” or other name. Ignoring all these issues “Android Nougat” will be making its way on to the devices from September 2016. As a true fan of Android we can expect more features on battery backup, Notifications, UI Changes and specially many of us want it on our device as over air UPDATE.
