Even after 69 years of independence health care and life support is still a gamble in a lot of villages in India. We have to wait for miracles to happen and things to go our way in desperate health situations. Sometimes such miracles do happen Thanks to Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s just-in-time intervention, the life of an 8-day-old girl from Dibrugarh, Assam suffering from a serious lung condition got saved, just minutes before her life-support would have gone flat. The girl was initially diagnosed with ‘Meconium aspiration syndrome’, a medical condition when first stool of the baby enters the lungs. When her condition worsened, doctors at Dibrugarh arranged an air-ambulance on Saturday evening. The infant was airlifted from Dibrugarh to Gangaram Hospital in New Delhi. PM’s involvement in the matter assured a traffic-free passage for the rescue team. When the team reached the hospital, the respiratory machine had only seven minutes of battery left in it.
The ambulance was supposed to land at the Indira Gandhi International Airport at around 7 pm on Saturday. Had the PM not intervened, it would have been impossible to reach the hospital on time due to heavy traffic. Emotionally moved and happy by the PM’s response, Dhrubajyoti Kalita, the father of the girl, said,
“HE IS OUR GOD TODAY. WE SOUGHT HELP FROM SEVERAL INFLUENTIAL PEOPLE, INCLUDING A TOP IPS OFFICER FROM NORTHEAST WORKING WITH DELHI POLICE. NOBODY DID ANYTHING. WE DID NOT KNOW WHAT WOULD HAPPEN TO OUR DAUGHTER.”
According to doctors at Gangaram Hospital, the girl has persistent pulmonary hypertension but is recovering now and is out of danger. Dhrubajyoti further said,
“THE WAY WE WERE RECEIVED AT THE AIRPORT WAS BEYOND OUR IMAGINATION. DELHI POLICE WAS EXTREMELY CORDIAL AND PROFESSIONAL. WE CANNOT THANK ENOUGH THE PRIME MINISTER AND DELHI POLICE.”
By actually caring for the people and helping them in such crisis, PM Modi has set an example for all leaders to follow.
