Social media presence is a very important aspect any business these days. And product marketers and online traders are on their toes to woo potential customers using their master class moves on social media. Paytm CEO, Vijay Shekhar Sharma is the latest to be wooed by Mukesh Ambani owned Reliance Jio. On Sunday, the founder and CEO of the prominent mobile wallet company and an Airtel customer had tried to advertise Airtel’s latest offer, but became a Jio convert.
He wrote on Twitter that he had called Airtel’s Customer Care and they offered him 60 GB / month data option for his current 15 GB per month plan for RS 2999. His twitter feed included the lines ‘ Pro tip : call them !’
Reliance Jio on realising that the poster boy of digital economy could become a potential customer tweeted him with their offer. They said he could get 56GB for Rs 499 and he does not have to call their customer care for this. Also offered was SIM card delivered to Sharma’s home and Adhaar based activation. The hashtag conveniently used was #withlovefromJio.
This technique struck a bull’s eye because Sharma became an immediate convert to the latest telco operator. His tweet in response was ‘ Now that you have said it, will get a #Jio life flavour soon’.
Reliance Jio which has created havoc in India’s telecom sector with its offers has been trying to get Indian celebrities. In January, they tried to get Hindi film super star Amitabh Bachchan to become their customer as well. Bachchan had complained about failed messages from his phone via Vodafone on twitter and Reliance Jio jumped in with their offer.
Jio has offered free voice and data services since it started operations in September, helping the new entrant to net 100 million subscribers in record time. Starting April 1, the company’s existing users and those coming on board in March will get data benefits under 10 plans listed on its Prime service, while voice calls will continue to be free.
To make its Prime plans more attractive, Jio launched a buy-one-get-one-free offer on Friday for those recharging before March 31.
From March 4 onwards , Airtel , Vodafone and Idea too started offering hugely discounted data plans with free voice to stem the flow of customers towards Jio.
