The war of India political parties is no more fought on the ground. The new battlefield is the social media and BJP seems to be the clear winner of political dominance on social media. One out of 6 pro political party pages operated on facebook in India are pro-BJP and a similar trend continues on twitter as well. So how did BJP manage to dominate social media is a very interesting question, The pro-BJP pages have constantly been exposing opposition on the ground level, these pages and accounts on social media is so well networked that posts on these pages have well become national news many times. Let’s now try to understand the social media dominance of BJP
BJP managed to dominate social media by engaging its ministers to be active on social media and address the concern of common man, they firmly believe that social media is the most convenient way to connect with the common man to address their issues. Sushma Swaraj is the best example I can quote, With more than 68% of BJP ministers active on social media it becomes very easy for the party to influence the world FB and Twitter. However, congress and other political parties leaders are have failed to show a similar commitment on social media which puts them way behind in the race.
BJP had successfully managed to advertise the positive changes they brought about on social media. PM Narendra Modi’s twitter and Facebook account are apparently one of the most followed accounts in the world today, Modi’s core team has never missed an opportunity to post about their achievement on social media which from FB and Twitter is shared via WhatsApp to reach millions on Indians.
BJP’s affiliation with the right-wing organizations has only made their journey a cakewalk. This affiliation has saved BJP from the critics of right-wing writers on social media. Though the online media is run by pro-BJP supporters one must understand that most content writers for these websites share their views more with the right wing organizations like RSS and VHP than with the BJP. The Recent backlash on BJP and PM Modi pertaining to his Gau Rakshak remark on social media is a prime example of how the right-wing writers dominate the world of social media. BJP could not have had an easy walk until the right wing writers supported them which other political parties, unfortunately, don’t enjoy may be because of the parties fundamentals or their anti-Hindu stand. Will BJP continue to dominate the social media ? Yes, says social media experts, however, this trend might continue only until the party maintains their pro-Hindu stands and until the opposition parties realize the importance of social media and its reach.
