You are not even a basic android app user if you haven’t heard of Truecaller. Who on earth doesn’t know the true caller? Avoiding spam callers to identifying a person who sent a “hi” on WhatsApp, the True caller is a hot app to find contact details of unknown numbers calling you. How does Truecaller get your contact details even though you are not on the app? It crowdsources contact details from all its users’ address books. So even if you’ve never used the service, your name and number could be on Truecaller’s database because someone saved your contact details and allowed the app to access them.
Now the problem is for some fixed contact lines Truecaller lists the address of the landline. But you don’t want some unknown person to know where you live just because that person has your number!!. Now, what is the solution to this problem? As far as I know there exists only one solution. That is removing your number from Truecaller’s database!!. But here is a fix. You can remove your number from their database only if you are not using their app. You will have to deactivate your own account first. But this can be done only if you think that you can survive without Truecaller!. In reality, not many think of removing the app. But if you have made up your mind to deactivate the account, this is how you do it. If you are using the app on iPhone, Android, or Windows mobile, here’s how to deactivate your Truecaller account.
Steps to deactivate your Truecaller account
Android
Open the app > tap the people icon in the upper left corner > Settings > About > Deactivat
iPhone
Open the app > tap the gear icon in the top right corner > About Truecaller > Scroll down >Deactivate Truecaller.
Windows Mobile
Open the app and tap the three dots in the bottom right corner > Settings > Help > Deactivate account.
Once you have deactivated your Truecaller account, you can proceed to remove your number from the service. Here’s how.
Now that you have uninstalled Truecaller the next question is, How to remove your number from Truecaller?
Go to the true caller unlist page https://www.truecaller.com/
1. Enter your phone number with the correct country code. For example: +911234567890 or +919123999999.
2. Tick one of the reasons for enlisting, or if you wish, type your reasons for removal in the Other form.
3. Key in the verification captcha.
4. Click Unlist.
5. Truecaller says that it removes these numbers within 24 hours after receiving an unlist request. But this doesn’t mean that your number does not stay away from service list forever. The best thing to do as of now is to have a periodic check with Truecaller users to see if your number is listed. If it is not you are good to go, if not repeat the unlisting procedure again
