The raw video footage of the controversial Afzal Guru event held in JNU campus has been found ‘genuine, authentic and untampered’ by the CBI forensic labs. JNU student leader Kanhaiya Kumar, Umar Khalid, Anirban Bhattacharya and few others were slapped with a sedition case with regards to this event.
Now that the footage has turned out to be true, more arrests are bound to happen. However, the police have clarified that the earlier arrests were made not on the basis of video clippings that were telecasted on some news channels. They had the raw footage based on which the decision of slapping sedition was taken. The cops also said that they have identified 19 other members in the video and trying out the possibility of arresting them. But, they said that they will tread with caution as many of the students are of Kashmiri origin.
The raw footage obtained from a stringer of Zee News was sent to the forensic lab in New Delhi along with the camera, memory card, a CD containing the clips, wires, and other equipment. The Delhi police had earlier sent video clips to the CFSL in Gandhinagar which had reported in May that they were genuine. But, in the investigation done by the Delhi government, where the video clips were sent to the CM Arvind Kejriwal’s aide owned Truth Labs in Hyderabad found 2 clips to be manipulated.
Now, that the raw footage is found out to be genuine. Will the section of media which broadcasted hours of news saying the footage was doctored, apologise? Will the acclaimed NDTV journalist Ravish, who had shown the black screen in defense of these students admit that he was wrong? Probably, No!
