My passion has always been very clear: I’ve always wanted to do something for India by working in the fields of politics, culture, history, and administration. The fact that I get to travel across the state motivating and inspiring people is what pushed me to channelize all my energy towards making a difference, showing people that there’s great possibility about India,” – The words of Tejasvi Surya, a young Galahad High court lawyer from Bangalore, General secretary of BJP youth wing Karnataka were great to enthrall me when I read about him first almost a year back! One year fast forward his name has come up in the race to contest for the MLA elections in the Jayanagar constituency with a BJP ticket after the untimely demise of the BJP former MLA Vijay Kumar. This could look as if Tejasvi has climbed up the ranks pretty quickly, but the hard work that he has put to reach this level, and the magic in the personality that has given him the limelight that he deserves is something which we need to look at.
BJP has provided eminent statesmen over the years. Be it Atal Bihari Vajpayee who would make the entire parliament silent with his wit, or be it Late Pramod Mahajan whose impeccable knowledge and mastery and control over words made him a sweetheart politician in the nation, BJP was always quick to pick the people who would make a difference. If BJP needs to pick one such name for the future it is Tejasvi Surya. Mature, young, well educated, successful and professionally eloquent are a few traits that I can name when I speak of Tejasvi, Give him the limelight he deserves and he will shine bright and radiant quite like his name. Well Prime Minister Narendra Modiji also feels the same about this young leader, in a conversation with the Yuva Morcha leaders he lauded Tejasvi saying, “Aap swayam Surya hai, swayam Tejasvi Bhi hai.” Well so much is his radiance already.
Before you start thinking,” Is he too young for this?” there are a few things that you need to know about this young leader of the future. Tejasvi is not new to being amongst the people or working for them. He already has a profile which reads 8 years of public service. Tejasvi a recipient of “Rastreeya Balashri” award at the tender age of 12, was an active member of the Akhila Bharata Vidhyarthi Parishad. In 2008 he started an NGO named “Arise India with a mission to channelize all its energies in the creation of a strong, participating and decisive youth vote bank. The vision of Arise India was to make this vote bank a factor of prime importance in the policymaking in the country. The Mangalore Chalo, A rally of the youth of BJP against the continuous murders of Hindu activists in the districts of Dakshina Kannada was very much a brainchild of Surya. This showcased the brilliant organizational skills and intelligence of Tejasvi Surya. This rally can be very much credited to the exceptional victory that BJP got in the combined districts of Udupi and Dakshina Kannada winning 12 out of 13 MLA seats and staking a decisive stronghold in the area.
Apart from this Tejasvi stands out for his clean image. It can be argued that it’s too early to speak about it, but it only takes one swing to know how good the sword is, and with Tejasvi the sword shines nice and bright. More importantly for the functioning of a political party and for strengthening its roots for future we need young guns who can fire in words and deeds. A strong and curated mixture of the youth and the experienced can help both politics and the nation. Picking up Tejasvi and mentoring him for the political endeavors of the future is probably the best bet BJP can make right now. The nation of youth and the party of the young needs a role model politician to follow and Guide. With people like Tejasvi Surya climbing up the ranks the nation’s future seems to be in right set of hands.
Tejasvi Surya is rooted to earth and humble. Ever since his name has been in the race for the Jayanagar constituency he has been constantly stating that, regardless of who the candidate is, it’s the duty of the BJP supporters to make sure that BJP wins. So much maturity for a young 26-year-old. No matter what happens and no matter where politics takes him, he has already made a strong statement for himself.
