49 people were gunned down early Sunday at a gay nightclub in Orlando, this is the worst attack on American soil after the 9/11 which shook the world said authorities.
The gunman is identified as Omar Mateen, 29, of Fort Pierce, Florida. Mateen is said to have entered the pub at around 2 am on Sunday with an assault rifle and a pistol and started shooting randomly killing 49 and injuring more than 50 people. The standoff continued for about 3 hours before police crashed into the building using an armored vehicle and shot the shooter. While all these enfolded people trapped inside desperately tried getting help texting and calling friends and family. Mateen was interviewed by the FBI in 2013 and 2014 but was not found to be a threat to the nation said investigated officials. Mateen called 911 during the attack to confirm his allegiance to ISIS.
Orlando Police Chief John Mina said early Sunday, “It appears he was organized and well-prepared,”
Omar Mir Seddique Mateen was born in 1986 in New York. Most recently he lived in Fort Pierce, about 120 miles southeast of Orlando. Fearing explosives, police evacuated about 200 people from the apartment complex where he lived while they looked through his residence for evidence.
Mateen’s parents, who are from Afghanistan, said he’d expressed outrage after seeing two men kiss in Miami, but they didn’t consider him particularly religious and didn’t know of any connection he had to ISIS.
