In a breaking development and a high profile case, the Rajasthan High Court in Jodhpur has pronounced its verdict in Chinkara poaching cases related to Salman Khan. The court has acquitted Salman in both the cases. The nation was waiting for two possibilities, One was that Salman Khan could have walked free and the sentence could have been lowered from 5 years and the second one was that if Salman was convicted, a warrant would have been issued and he could have been jailed. However, with the court’s verdict, acquitting him in both cases is a huge relief to the actor.
Chinkara, or Indian Gazelle, is an endangered animal accorded the highest protection under Schedule 1 of the Wildlife protection Act 1972. Two separate cases had been registered against Salman Khan under section 51 of Wildlife Protection Act for poaching of two chinkaras in village Bhawad on 26-27 September 1998 and one chinkara in Mathania (Ghoda Farm) on 28-29 September 1998. At that time, Salman was shooting for Sooraj Barjatya’s family drama, ‘Hum Saath Saath Hain’.
The trial court (CJM) had convicted him in both the cases sentencing him to one- year and 5-year imprisonment on February 17, 2006, and April 10, 2006, respectively. Salman had filed an appeal before the High Court challenging the lower court’s verdict in the two separate cases of poaching. The actor was today acquitted in these two cases.
The twitter, however, didn’t seem to enjoy the verdict as a number of tweets with hashtag #Blackbuck started surfacing after the verdict.

Probably because all the victim's friends and relatives have already died of old age.— Ramesh Srivats (@rameshsrivats) July 25, 2016

Of course Salman Khan didn’t kill any blackbuck. All blackbucks have long been safely deposited in Swiss banks.
