This picture of a police officer standing in a praying posture in front of a biker riding with 2 kids on the petrol tank and two women on the back became viral on the internet last week.
Why was the officer on duty showing this kind of a sorry stature for a person who had violated 2 traffic rules?
1. Riding with 4 other riders when even triple riding is a punishable offence
2. The rider and the pillion rider (s) not wearing helmets.
The cop in the picture is Circle inspector of police B. Shubha Kumar. He is the CI of Madakasira in Ananthapura District of Andrapradesh. This incident happened last Monday (The second of October 2017). The rider in the picture is a Hanumantharayadu from the same locality. Shubha Kumar had just arrived after a lecture on road safety and awareness for the people on the eve of Gandhi Jayanthi.
Even though he was angry about the rider violating the rules and for putting the lives of his co-riders and his own personal life in danger. The police officer didn’t want to handle the situation in a rough manner. He didn’t want to add more to the negative opinions that people already have on police. So he instead decided to stand in front this rider and requested him to follow the traffic rules.
It is learned that the rider and his family were going to a nearby temple. The police officer then booked an auto rickshaw for the family and sent them across to the temple. Shubha Kumar was a lecturer by profession before he joined the Police force. Officers like him help us change the perception that we have on police.
