Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi has won the online reader’s poll for TIME person of the year. He has emerged as the favorite and most influential among those who voted. However, TIME Magazine’s editors will decide the final Person of the Year. The results will be declared on 7 December. Every year the TIME magazine selects a person or a group which have had the biggest global impact in the past one year.
In this year’s online poll, PM Modi has beat many other world notable personalities. He got 18 per cent of the “Yes” vote. And this is way higher than his closest contenders like Donald Trump, Barack Obama and Julian Assange, who got only 7 per cent of the “Yes” vote.
Since 2014, Modi’s popularity remains sky-high. However, this year will be remembered for anti-globalist wave throughout the western world, marked by Brexit and the election of Donald Trump. Hence, no one would be surprised if Trump or Julian Assange (for Clinton’s emails that contributed to Trump’s victory) is finally selected.
