Recently, senior BJP leader and Former Union Finance Minister Yashwant Sinha attacked Modi government for it’s economic policies. However, this is not the first time a senior BJP leader has lashed out against the govt. Here is the list of 8 such leaders who have done so. These leaders have vociferously spoke against the government and some particularly have targeted Arun Jaitley on various occasions. Interestingly, these leaders did not get any role when the Modi govt was formed on May, 2014. So, whether these are genuine concerns or a case of sour grapes is up to our readers to decide!
Yashwant Sinha
Mr. Sinha claimed that India’s economy is heading towards “hard landing” in a newspaper article on September 27. The former bureaucrat-turned-politician has been speaking against the decisions which are considered the biggest achievements of the Modi government – such as demonetisation, GST, GDP and the abolition of the Planning Commission.
He also said that, those who are above the age of 75 were declared brain dead on May 26, 2014.
Shatrughan Sinha
The Patna Sahib MP Shatrughan Sinha has been a constant and vocal critic of the Modi government’s decisions. He has been airing views against the party’s official stand and also was seen hobnobbing along with the BJP rival leaders.
Lal Krishna Advani
PM Narendra Modi’s mentor at one point of time, Advani has also subtly expressed displeasure over the functioning of the government.
In an interview to an English daily in June 2015, he created ripples by commenting that he didn’t have the confidence to believe the Emergency would not happen again.
Kirti Azad
The cricketer turned politician alleged financial irregularities in Delhi and District Cricket Association (DDCA) during Arun Jaitley’s tenure as its chief. He argued with Jaitley in the parliament itself embarrassing the party. He was then suspended from BJP.
Murli Manohar Joshi
Another veteran politician who was also denied the cabinet berth because of his age, has not left any opportunities to put down the Modi govt. The Kanpur MP has been a vocal critic of Namami Gange project. He questioned the manner in which the cleaning of the Ganga had been undertaken and said it would ensure that the river “does not get cleaned even in the next 50 years”.
He had also asked the BJP leadership brass to take up the responsibility for Bihar election debacle.
Arun Shourie
This journalist turned politician was eyeing for a role in the Modi govt. When he felt that he wouldn’t get one, he started attacking the PM. He alleged that the prime minister possesses the three personality traits that make the “dark triad” – narcissism, Machiavellian and remorselessness.
He also accused Modi of running a “one man presidential” govt.
Subramanian Swamy
It is a well known fact that Dr. Swamy does not like Arun Jaitley and he keeps attacking him on various issues. Recently, Swamy said GST should not have been implemented in a hurry. He alleged that the involvement of private companies in the GST Network (GSTN) was leading to harassment.
Raj Kumar Singh
The bureaucrat turned politician, first-time MP from Arrah in Bihar had levelled grave charges against the BJP leadership ahead of the state polls. He alleged that party tickets were being sold to criminals. This had immensely embarrassed the BJP and given the Opposition a handle to attack it.
But much for a surprise, he was given the ministerial berth in the recent reshuffle and is now the Union Minister of State (independent charge) for Power and New and Renewable Energy.
